How to buy group insurance from AIA

The whole process is done online. The company can request a quote from the agent, and if it is acceptable all the documents can be submitted digitally to the agent and processed by the applications department.

1: Request a Quote for the Annual Premium

Because every company is different, the group insurance premium will depend on the following factors:

Steps to request a premium quote

number one

Speak to an AIA agent

about your budget and group insurance needs. If you don’t know the exact benefits that you want, or you don’t know the exact premium you want to pay, the agent can give you some options.

number two

Wait for Quote

The agent will request a premium quote from AIA. This usually takes less than a day. The agent can request multiple quotes so that you can see which plan suits your company the best.

the number three

Choose your cover

Inform the agent which plan you want and submit the application documents.

Information you can prepare before speaking to an agent:

2 - Submit Group Insurance Application

Once you’ve decided on the plan and premium, you can proceed with the application process.

All application documents and signatures can be prepared by the company and sent through email to your AIA agent.

Your agent can then submit it to the AIA approval department for further processing.

Preparing Application Documents

The following completed documents need to be sent to your agent:

1 - Employee list
2 - Employee enrollment form
3 - Employee health declaration form
4 - Company registration certificate
5 - ID of company signatory

3 - Pay the Premium

The AIA approval department can only start the approval process after receiving the premium payment.

Therefore, the company should pay the premium after they’ve submitted the application, or within one or two days.

It usually takes the approval department about 2 working days to receive and clear the premium payment.

The premium can be paid by:

Wait for Approval

After the approvals department receives  the premium, it can take around 7 to 14 working days for the application to be approved.

The agent will always keep you updated.

What to do after application is approved

After your company’s group insurance is approved:

Adding family members to the group insurance

A family member, or dependent, can be the employee’s eligible spouse or children.

Note: Terms and conditions can change, so please ask your AIA agent if you have any questions about adding a spouse or children.

Adding a Spouse

Employees can add their spouse to the group insurance.

AIA will not ask for the marriage certificate during the application process.

The employee may add the long-term partner as their beneficiary in case of death, however, if the beneficiary is not a legally married spouse, AIA may request proof of a long term relationship.

If the employee divorces or no longer has a relationship with their partner, then the spouse or partner must be removed from the group insurance policy.

Adding Children

The employee’s children can be added to the company group insurance.

The children must be eligible – at least 2 weeks old, not over 18 years of age and unmarried. The age requirement can be extended from 18 to 23 years old if still a full-time student and unmarried.

AIA does not normally request the child’s birth certificate during application, but they may if there is a situation that requires it.

Why should you do Group insurance with me

Choosing the right group insurance package can sometimes be confusing. There are eligibility requirements, and important regulations that the company must be aware of before choosing. I can help the company choose a package that is right for them, and answer any questions they may have.

After approval, I hold an employee orientation to properly explain the policy benefits to the employees. Throughout the policy year I assist HR, and help employees with their claims.

Employee Orientation

I provide an orientation presentation to the company’s employees to explain the following:

woman agent sitting at desk

HR can rely on me for assistance

Employees can use my assistance

Employees are often not sure whether they can use their group insurance cover at the hospital they normally use. I can provide the approved hospital network locations, and assist them with the check-in and claims procedure.

From my experience, employees like to process claims themselves using the AIA app. It is very quick and easy because the employee just uploads the claim documents directly through the app.

However, I’m always available to help and follow up on claims when necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you apply online for group insurance?

Yes. These days you can request a quote, apply, and be approved all online.

All eligible company employees need to be included in the group insurance application.

If the company has 5 to 19 employees they need to complete a health declaration form to declare pre-existing health conditions. If the company has 20 or more employees they don’t need to.

Yes, but the company must choose the AIA FlexiPack package.

No, OPD is an optional extra. Each package has it’s core benefits which must also be included.

Office syndrome is covered if the group insurance has included out-patient (OPD) into their policy.

No group insurance package allows for monthly payment. The 5UP and 20UP premium can only be paid annually, while the FlexiPack premium can be paid semi-annually with members between 50 to 99, and quarterly with members over 100,

Anyone can request a quote, but for application AIA requires the company’s signatory to sign. The company signatory is a person (or persons) with the authority to sign on behalf of the company.

It is recommended that the employer starts with discussing their budget with the agent for recommendations and to see which group insurance plans are available.
The agent can then offer the company a few different options, which they can use to ask their employees about which benefits and coverage the employee values the most.

Occupation class is a classification of risk which the employees are exposed to. For example, manual laborers are exposed to more risk than office workers. This affects which group insurance package your company may choose. Please ask your agent about which occupation class your company falls within.
