Yes. As a Type 1 policy, it provides coverage for damage to your insured motorcycle resulting from a collision, overturning, or other perils. It also covers the loss of the motorcycle due to theft or fire.
Check above for the exact coverage for your bike/model/year.
A “third party” is anyone who suffers damage or injury from an accident you cause, who is not you (the insured), the driver at fault, or the driver’s employees, spouse, parents, or children.
Here are some examples of a third party:
The policy does not cover damage or liability from several key situations, including:
No, the policy excludes coverage if the driver is found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. This applies if:
No, the policy does not provide coverage when the vehicle is used outside of the designated territory.
No, the third-party liability coverage explicitly excludes the driver’s spouse, parents, and children. However, the spouse, parents, and children are covered by the “Additional Coverage” which covers 50,000 baht per person (maximum two people).
This situation may not be covered. The policy excludes loss or damage resulting from embezzlement or theft by a person who was entrusted with the motorcycle, such as under a rental or lease agreement.
For this Type 1 insurance from MSIG you don’t need a specific visa, however you do need to own the motorbike and have the proper documentation for it (such as the green registration book and your passport).
While the compulsory insurance (Por Ror Bor) is legally required, it offers only minimal coverage mainly for injuries or death of third parties, with limits of up to 80,000 THB for medical costs and 300,000 THB in case of death. It doesn’t cover any damage to your motorbike or to other property.
Voluntary insurance such as Type 1 or Type 3 policies provides much broader protection. It can cover repair costs for your own bike, damage to third-party property, and often includes bail bond coverage. For better peace of mind and financial security, voluntary insurance is a smart and practical choice.
